FORGOTTEN PAPER GETS A NEW STORY WITH EVERY WORK!
Collage as an art form fascinates me because of its diverse design possibilities. In my Berlin studio I create analogue, digital and mixed media collages. Forgotten paper is given a new story with each work. Photos, newspaper clippings, drawings, various materials, found objects and the digital transformation of analogue objects create works that captivate, irritate and captivate with strong visual messages.
I love every part of the process, from finding suitable footage, the complicated cutting, tearing
or folding the paper, composing and arranging, processing analogues digitally, and even photography and documentation
the process of creating the collage.
Multiple overlapping and highlighted structures create a tangible reality. The experimental process is inspired by surprising things, colors and materials. My collages address social problems on the one hand, and the combination of exciting motifs, materials and found objects on the other hand creates a dynamic that allows you to immerse yourself in a world of your own.
The spontaneous selection of images is put together intuitively and working with an open mind allows arrangements to emerge without any intention. Random image discoveries and the dialogue of color compositions increasingly condense into a creative unity in the creative process. Unexpected discoveries of situations that arise in my work are either further developed or discarded entirely.
The collages always have a title, which is usually created after completion. The viewer of the respective collage can immerse themselves in scenes, track down items and objects and discover a story for themselves.

MELANIE GIOVANNA LANDRO
1969 Born in Paderborn, with Italian/German roots, I dreamed of studying art and French after graduating from high school, but my path took a different path. I was given the opportunity to complete an apprenticeship as an advertising saleswoman in Berlin, which I 1993 with an IHK qualification.
I then worked for various agencies in Berlin and the Rhine-Main area, focusing on exhibitions, trade fair appearances, events, roadshows and promotions, both nationally and internationally, and worked as a 2D and 3D producer across multiple projects.
2006
I started my own business with LANDRO Kommunikation and continued to work freelance as a project manager for various agencies, companies and institutions.
2011
, tired of the fast-changing event business,
I said goodbye to this industry. It took a while
to reinvent yourself.
2014
I have
I founded a T-shirt label with my own studio in Berlin that designs and produces shirts with Berlin and artistic motifs. Now I was able to use the experience I had gained over many years, from planning, organization, implementation and implementation to the design and production of products, for my own business.
2018
I then decided to pursue my passion for analogue collages, which
has existed since my childhood, to finally pursue more intensively again.
2020
I realized that the artistic work on collages
is not just a technique, but a mindset, and I
who would like to develop this professionally. Permanent participation
of tenders and competitions, the logical conclusion for me was not to remain alone with my art. The exchange
to artistic colleagues and art-loving audiences is
very important, because without talking about what you have seen with others,
there can be no further development in the artistic process.
I am constantly working on my portfolio and, as an autodidact, I am constantly optimizing my analogue and digital working techniques and forms of implementation and am looking for new ways of expressing my time-critical collages. Great role models for me are artists such as Hanna Höch, Lee Krasner and Edward Hopper.
I have already been able to present my works of art to a wider audience and two of my collages have been published in the books FUTURE, by Fragmented Collective, 2022 and PLAY AND RECORD, by Edinburgh Collage Collective, 2021. With ARTBOX.PUBLISH I have published three of my own collage catalogues. In 2020 I was selected by The Collage Garden for the exhibition "OUT OF THE BOX" in Seville, Spain. The KUBOSHOW 2022 was an absolute highlight. At the art fair in the Flottmann Halls in Herne, I was able to exhibit 16 collages for the first time in the Kunsthalle. Two more group exhibitions followed in Berlin and Barcelona in December.
2023 was a very eventful year! In addition to six group exhibitions in Berlin, including my first participation in BAAM#06 and BAAM Paper Edition, I was also able to exhibit collages in Rome at the Medina Art Gallery. The KUBOSHOW ONLY ONLINE was another interesting experience of offering works of art for sale via an online platform. In the CHROMART FEBRUARY 2023 issue, five collages including an interview and my collage MISSING SPACE were published in CONTEMPORARY COLLAGE MAGAZINE issue #23.
In September, the exciting pilot project "Kunst2Go" was launched under the leadership of the Berlin Art School with financial support from the European Social Fund and the State of Berlin. Its task was to work with Berlin artists to transform old vending machines into art machines from which you can pull original miniature works of art. The kick-off vernissage with the ceremonial inauguration of the art machine took place in the Zeitzone gallery in Kreuzberg. The week-long workshop "Collage Art and Me" in November, which I designed together with an artist and was able to supervise for the youth vocational assistance in Essen, was a real highlight. My greatest wish for 2024 is to find a gallery that will support me with my collage art and its presentation.
